I am trying to make a 'logo' I guess you would call it. I am trying to make a Captain Obvious big bold block of letters sign. I want the two words stacked on top of each other with a deep 3d feel and I want it to be a 1/4 type view fading away to the background... so the letters are getting smaller and are getting further away as you look from left to right. And for the life of me, I can't figure out how to get this affect in either Photoshop 7 or in GIMP. Any help would be appreciated.

I think you mean like the old Superman sorta logo thing right?

I found a couple of pages, one which has a heap of photoshop tutorials for different text effects, a couple of which I think might be similar to what you're after.
http://www.photoshoproadmap.com/Photoshop-blog/2007/07/22/the-best-80-photoshop-text-effects-on-the-web/

This second link I think is probably the exact effect you are talking about but I'm not sure =\

hope they help!

First attempt with the tutorial. Seems pretty easy when you follow the directions. Some of these other photoshop text tutorials are amazing. I might just have to play with a few of them. They're cool.

I dont think that particular font does any good to your character. One thing i recomend you is try looking for a font that goes with your character's personality and dont rely on effects either. I could bet that your character would benefit much more on a flat cool font than with a 3D effect.

Here are a few tutorials that you can read about using fonts, which i really recomend.

I found a font on my computer called Gilligan's Island. I reckon it'd go pretty good as Captain Obvious title as it's pretty similar in some aspects to the font you currently use in your Cap. Obvious postings.

I did a search a found it here... http://www.wantedfonts.com/sample.phtml?id=1363&text=Captain+Obvious

I've fallen in love with this site as they give you the option to sample the typeface with text of your own before you download it. That's a pretty nice plaything Smile

Can't wait to see what you end up deciding to do. Cap. Obvious cracks me up!

Those are some great tutorials. Love them. I can't wait to try experimenting.

And that example I posted wasn't one that I intend on using, it's just practice. I put it in my photobucket acct. Not on my blue line website. It's just something for us cool guys at Action! Cartooning to see, not the adoring public.

I followed the tutorial step by step, but it's not as crisp as I would like. I guess I need to practice more.

Looks pretty awesome! Must've been a good tutorial. There are so many out there, if I spent more time than I already do polishing up my photoshop skills I'd never have any time to do anything else.

If you ever want to be amazed at what people can do with photoshop (or pretty much any similar program) check out www.worth1000.com

It's a really wicked site and has some really inspirational stuff and just plain whacky!
